Settlement

Settlement that does not require trust

Wayfare sits between the two sides of a trade. Each leg is held until both are ready, then released together. Neither side sends first, and neither side pre-funds a counterparty to avoid it.

How it works

One flow, every trade

The state flow

  1. Proposed
  2. Accepted
  3. Both legs held
  4. Released
  5. Settled

A trade is proposed and accepted on the terms you agreed with your counterparty. Wayfare then holds both legs. When either side authorises release, both legs deliver together — or neither does, and each side keeps what it brought.

Both legs on chain

Where both assets move on chain, release is atomic. Both legs are held and visible before anything moves, and both deliver in the same release or not at all.

Crypto against local fiat

Where one leg is local fiat, the crypto leg is held while the fiat leg is paid and confirmed by the recipient.

“The crypto leg is held and visible before the payment is made. That is not atomic settlement and we will not call it that. It is a long way from sending first and hoping.”

Netting windows

Trades inside a netting window are collapsed before they settle. A worked example: Desk A owes Desk B, Desk B owes Desk C, and Desk C owes Desk A, all in the same asset and the same window. Netted, the three obligations offset one another and a day of back-and-forth becomes a handful of transfers — sometimes none.

Counterparty limits

You set exposure limits per counterparty. Trades that would exceed a limit do not proceed, so exposure is a decision you make in advance, not a discovery you make afterwards.

The dispute path

If the two sides disagree, the legs stay held. Nothing is released to either side until the dispute is resolved, and the full event trail is available to both parties while it is.

Capabilities

What settlement covers

  • Atomic release

Where both legs are on chain, both deliver together or neither does. There is no state in which one side has sent and the other has not.

  • Fiat legs confirmed, not assumed

For crypto against local fiat, the crypto leg is held and visible while the fiat payment is made, and release waits on the recipient's confirmation.

  • Netting windows

A day of trades inside a window collapses into a handful of transfers, cutting the number of movements and the fees and operational load that come with them.

  • Exposure limits per counterparty

Limits you set yourself, enforced before a trade proceeds — not reported after the fact.

  • Full event trail

Every state change from proposed to settled is recorded and can be handed to an auditor or a counterparty as it stands.

Honest limits

What this does not change

Wayfare does not make a fiat payment atomic. When one leg is local fiat, settlement depends on that payment being made and confirmed, and we say so rather than dressing it up.

Wayfare sets no prices, matches no orders and takes no position. Your counterparties remain yours, agreed on your terms.

Settle without sending first.
